Parenting Seminar
Last Saturday, I had to privilege to be invited to the Parenting Seminar organized by Maybe Baby at the NTUC auditorium.
From 9am to 6pm, more than 200 couples joined each other on a Parenting journey, to find out how we could be better partners and how we could better cope as Parents.
Personally I was blown away by the information given to me especially at the “Fertility Talk” by Dr Suresh Nair (Senior O&G Consultant, Mount Elizabeth Hospital)
Do you know that a women has 1 to 2 million eggs at birth?
And by the age of 40 – there are only about 10,000 eggs left.
I was like…Gee! I did not know that!
These were some of the issues discussed by Dr Nair, as he delivered a really candid and interesting lesson in fertility.
As Asians, many of us don’t think about seeking medical help when we are looking to be parents. However, if you are modern enough to find this article on the internet, I am sure that you are ready to embrace medical science as well.
Parenthood is an important responsibility and when couples are ready to be parents…Why wait? Especially when you want to be running around with them in the house?
There is no harm in helping “Mother Nature” along the way, and with medical processes such as In vitro fertilisation (IVF) becoming so common, it would be great if the “little bundle of joy” can come earlier than expected.
What’s more, the good doctor recommends that if you are in your early 30s, and if you have “trying” for a year, you should consult a fertility doctor for some help.
And if you are over 35 years old, and have not had much success for the last 6 months, you should also consult your doctor!
Interesting right…Another topic that was really “hot” was the “Sex and Intimacy” talk by Dr Ann Tan (O&G Consultant, Women & Fetal Centre).
Dr Ann gave a lot of information about how to keep bedroom “interesting”, and answered many interesting questions from the crowd as well.
It seems that there were lots of Parents aiming for Baby Boys, and they were wondering if they could help Mother Nature along the way!
Well, it seems that charting your ovulation, and to other methods like eating something “sour” , do not guarantee 100 percent success. Hey! At the end of the day, the odds are all not that bad…It’s still 50-50… And that’s much better than your chances of winning at the Casino!

I for one, am just happy to have kids…and experience the different personalities that they add to my life! (You can read more about their adventures at edunloaded.com)
