Babymoon bliss!

Sun, sand, sea and lots of chill-time. That’s our definition of a perfect babymoon.

And I’m glad to report that I’ve just returned from THE most lovely babymoon ever! Okay, I honestly don’t know what the standard of a good babymoon is, if there’s any, but I was pretty darned pleased with ours!

We were initially all set to head to Bali, a classic babymoon venue, until we realised (just about a week before we were intending to travel) that it was the rainy season there. Thankfully, we had not booked our flights or accommodations yet, and after a bout of intensive research online, I found a great alternative destination – Danang in Central Vietnam! It’s a wonderful little-known paradise, still relatively untouched by mass tourism. And this time of year just happened to have the perfect weather! Cool air temperatures (around 27 degrees celsius in the day), clear blue skies and sunny days! No rain at all for the 5 days we were there!

Danang is close to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as the Ancient Town of Hoi An (somewhat similar to Malacca, with narrow streets dotted with quaint old houses and temples), My Son (an archaeological site dating back more than 1,000 years), and the Imperial City of Hue.  Despite the wide variety of places to explore, we only ventured out to Hoi An for a day, and spent most of our time relaxing at the resort.

The resort itself was splendid! A luxurious 5-star resort barely a year old, fronting the beautiful Bac My An beach, with a fantastic infinity pool just by the beach.

The beach, too, was amazing: clean, quiet and peaceful, with soft, white, powdery sand, stretching out to the endless horizon of the South China Sea.

Perhaps it was the low season for Danang, but there were so few guests around that we almost had the whole resort to ourselves most of the time! As a result, we had excellent and attentive service which just added to the overall enjoyment of the stay.

We pretended this was our very own private resort

The resort’s restaurant was also incredibly impressive, with innovative dishes such as the “Pho Beef Pizza”, and “Hot Rock Clams” – local surf clams cooked over superheated mountain rocks! For dessert, we couldn’t resist the very unique “Liquid Nitrogen Ice-Cream Show”, where the chef would create our ice-cream on the spot using just cream, milk and sugar, and a healthy dose of liquid nitrogen to solidify the mixture! Superb!

Like magic, the smoke clears and our ice-cream appears!

Best of all, Tim and I had the chance to spend good, quality couple time together, just lazing by the pool, chit chatting about nothing in particular. It’s so important to get away from the stress and madness of Singapore once in a while and re-connect, especially since this would be one of the last few opportunities to do so before baby arrives!

Enjoying the privilege of having the pool all to ourselves

To all parents-to-be, it is definitely worth the time and effort to plan a babymoon! It’s probably even more important for couples like us who are having a baby so soon after marriage, to dedicate time to enjoy couplehood before life as we know it changes forever!

Wow, looks absolutely heavenly! Probably a good place to bring my kids as well! Is there a direct flight?

Yeah its a really beautiful place, but unfortunately it wasn’t a direct flight. We had to transfer to a domestic flight at Ho Chi Minh, but I think its well worth the effort! :)

Actually I’m not sure if SilkAir might have a direct flight…I took budget at half the airfare that I saw on SilkAir!
