I was half tempted to title this entry “Baby Number 2”, but didn’t want you guys to go “Chey…..” when you read the content.
The thing is, ‘having a baby’ is how many people describe a particularly rewarding but tough process like creating an album or a website or a business. So it really isn’t so far from the truth if I say I’m having “Baby Number 2” because…. I am starting a new business (which may not be new news for those on Twitter =p)
How did this business thing come about? Dan and I wanted to do something we are passionate about, something that pays the bills(we hope), and has flexi hours so that we can be with Renee. As you can imagine, it would be quite difficult to find a job like that unless we create one and so we decided to.
The next question — what Are we passionate about?
Dan is passionate about turning a profit running any a business. I’m passionate about music and baking. Since music doesn’t really pay the bills, we decided to go the baking route. In addition, I was very inspired after watching “DC Cupcakes” on cable. It is exactly the kind of shop I want to own! Making happy food that will put smiles on people’s faces =) The only thing that held me back was whether Renee is still too young for me to go away even if it’s just for a few hours a day. Dan assured me that we will be able to cope with Renee and the shop because time management is what he is really good at, and he is! Dan is one of the most efficient people I know. He gets things done in double time, and it’s no slip shod work too. I just have to concentrate on doing what I like and doing it well.
Of course changes in our daily routine will be inevitable. Maybe I cannot put her to sleep all of her nap times, but I can still do the noon naps and nights. Maybe we cannot be home all the time with her, but we can surely bring her to the shop. It doesn’t hurt that she likes going out and is always pointing at the door and saying “Out! Out!” to us every other hour of the day. Also, now that she is slightly older, I can consider sending her for short 1-2hr classes with my helper sitting in with her. I mean, my shop is going to be at United Square, the mall for kids. Surely I can find something age- appropriate for her and time-appropriate for me!
With these plans for Renee in place, I do think that we can swing this. At least I now have an answer when people ask me when “Baby Number 2” is arriving. She will be here some time next month. I have been making preparations the last few months for her (just like a real baby!!), and I think the chances of “sibling rivalry” at this point is very low.
A family works through changes together because family sticks together.
