The Sexy Jugglers
My life is changing fast. Nowadays, when I go shopping, instead of looking for pretty dresses, bags and shoes, I’m looking at *in one breath…* TVs, cables, mops, furniture, refrigerators, ovens, air purifiers – in short, a full array of household items that hadn’t been on my normal shopping list previously.
But the funny thing is, I actually quite like it! I am enjoying the entire process of having to research on every single item I intend to purchase for the house. Plus I am learning a lot in the process of doing so. I don’t really like to call my new place a “house” though – it just sounds so cold. It raises the imagery of a stone-walled place with a bunch of rooms. To spur me on in my ‘decorative’ quest, I think of the entire process more as a means to deliver a warm home for me and my husband-to-be. It makes me so happy just to think of how wonderful our lives will be, once everything has been done up to perfection. The only tough part of the entire process is having to wait for the delivery of each individual item. I had to juggle my work schedule and wedding preparations and life in general, around each delivery time. To make things worse, there were several mistakes with the delivery items, and in some instances, the delivery men changed the delivery time at the last minute, or simply didn’t show up at all. It was certainly very frustrating. Many a time, I found myself wishing that there was a way to have everything done with the wave of a magic wand!
In the process of seeking perfection, I had to contend with not just getting the best equipment/furniture/item… but rather, trying to seek out the best value for the money I was putting in. With the multiple purchases, construction and repairs, the bills just seem to pile up. I soon found myself having to contend with making the best of my “money no enough” situation. And to ensure that I get the very best deal, I realise that it takes quite a bit of hard work! As the saying goes – if something seems too good to be true, it probably is! I found myself having to tussle, bargain and negotiate to arrive at reasonable deals that I could accept. It’s a lot of hard work.
But I guess to make a good life for oneself, one must be willing to work hard. It’s a simple theory – if you want your body to stay fit, you have to put in the work to exercise; if you want your relationship to work, you can’t be lazy, you have to work at it; and if you want your friendships to work, you have to make an effort. Needless to say, I am working hard to make sure my house is turned into a comfortable home. But in the midst of it all, I am happy to say that my husband-to-be has been very supportive, and just knowing he’s behind me in everything that I do makes everything all worthwhile. In the words of Elizabeth Dunphy: “it’s the little things that matter, that add up in the end, with the priceless thrilling magic only found in a friend”. And I have found my best friend, who will share my life, my love, my all.
So I guess the multi-tasking ability that was bestowed upon women really comes in handy when we need to perform all these tasks as “Jugglers”. I have great respect for women who are amazing wives, mothers, employees and employers. Strange thing is, I’ve noticed that most of the women whom I know or came across actually managed to do it all! They are capable at work, and they come home and cook a scrumptious meal for the family. At the same time, they are loving and tuck their children in at night and when the next day comes, they do it all over again. To top things off, some have perfectly manicured nails and flawless hair that just cascades down their perfectly-toned arms. This is mind-boggling to me! I don’t know how it’s done yet, but you (yes you!) who fits the above description… you are my inspiration. (minus the manicured nails though – I love eating fried chicken and durians with my hands way too much!)
I’m learning slowly but surely how to be a “Juggler”. Hopefully one day, I can also be skilled in managing these multiple responsibilities, with grace and style, strapped in my Louboutins.
This is Tyson the Horse. He’s a new addition to our home. Tysonnnn….Tysonnnnn….My sonnnnn!!

Lol, yes we are all jugglers in a sense. We are wife, mom, coach, driver, worker, housekeeper, disciplinarian, etc… But with good time management, we can manage the above roles. It takes time and most importantly, go with the flow
Oh yes, and those nails, the secret is gel manicure

Tracy,
I am loving the last image of you ’strapped’ in your designer heels in the midst of juggling your everyday activities. Currently writing a research paper in employment law to do with mothers working at magic circle law firms, and I completely agree that the process between balancing work and family life cannot be done by the lazy! I believe women at a turning point in their lives always seem to slip into the process without even knowing it. It seems like you are already heading in that direction: you are finding a way to deal with untimely furniture delivers; meet up with friends; pay the bills; hassle the contractors!
Looking forward to the next entry and thank you for sharing more about your life!
